Post offices to close

RESIDENTS are reeling at the news that three post office branches in Lancing and Sompting will definitely close next month.

The Post Office announced on Friday that its branches in Crabtree Lane and Sompting Road, Lancing, and Busticle Lane, Sompting, will shut on Tuesday, October 21.

All three closures have been agreed with the branch's postmasters, who want to leave the business, and are part of a nationwide restructuring programme.

The Post Office announced last month that it was considering closing the branches and invited comments from the public.

News of the possible closures were condemned by MP Tim Loughton, Lancing Parish Council and Adur District Council.

The Post Office's head of area, Drew McBride, said: "Of course, no one likes to see the branch nearest to them shut, but even with the closures of Cokeham, Crabtree and West Lancing Post Office branches, customers will still have reasonable access to Post Office services they value and trust.

"The remaining Post Office branches in the area are conveniently accessible to customers and are within a mile of Cokeham, Crabtree and West Lancing branches.

"Lancing, Bowness Avenue and North Lancing Post Office branches have sufficient capacity to handle the additional demands of customers."
