Postal strikes called off but firefighters’ action still scheduled to go ahead

POSTAL workers will no longer go on strike on Monday after progression in negotiations over better terms and conditions.

At the time The Herald went to press, Worthing Post Office staff were expected to walk out for 24 hours on Monday (November 4), but the industrial action was called off on Wednesday afternoon.

Postal worker Gareth Jones, industrial relations rep for Worthing Post Office, said staff felt concerned over the effect the service’s recent privatisation would have on their futures.

But national negotiations between the Communication Workers Union and the Royal Mail had progressed enough for the strike to be stopped.

Meanwhile, firefighters are still expected to walk out on Monday for three and a half hours on Friday, and two hours on Monday.
