LEWES District Council is reminding those people who opted for a postal vote for the local elections on May 5 to return their forms as soon as possible.
It has already processed more than 11,500 returned postal votes. If you applied for a postal vote, it needs to be received by the Returning Officer no later than 10pm on Thursday, May 5. If you have left it too late to post back, you can drop it off at your polling station or at the Elections Office, Lewes District Council, Lewes House, 32 High Street, Lewes BN72LX.
For those people who intend to go along to their local polling station to vote in the District, Town and Parish Council elections and a UK-wide referendum on May 5, the council is reminding voters that staff at the polling stations will not be able to give out any information about the referendum. The referendum is on the voting system used for elections to the UK Parliament and the question being put to voters is: “At present, the UK uses the ‘first past the post’ system to elect MPs to the House of Commons. Should the ‘alternative vote’ system be used instead?”
