Pouring rain not a problem at St Stephen's strawberry tea

Despite the bad weather people left the comfort of home and flocked to St Stephen's Strawberry Fair on Saturday.

Unfortunately marquee's and tent's that had been erected in anticipation of a warm summers day were not to be used, instead a quick improvisation by church volunteers ensured that visitors had chairs and tables to sit at in one of the church hall's rooms.

Delicious strawberry teas with home-made cakes and scones were much in demand as were the home-made cakes that were for sale.

Stalls sold jewellery, books and bric a brac and children were entertained by a game of fishing for rubber ducks.

Chairman of the church collection fund Josie Loss said that despite the bad weather it was nice to see people turning out to support the day.

She said: "We have some wonderful people in our community."

The money raised will go to the church fund.
