POWER CUT AFFECTS 2,000

NEARLY 2,000 homes and businesses were affected by power cuts in the Arundel area on Sunday after a cable fault in the mains network.Southern Electric said that the power to 1,953 customers was cut at around 1.30pm.

A spokeswoman said the majority of customers had the power put back on within the first hour, but admitted that the very last customers had to wait until around 11pm.

She added that power was lost a couple of times during the afternoon while the problem was being isolated.

The spokeswoman said it would have been for a very small amount of time on each occasion, for a maximum of half an hour, with a very small number of people affected.

Stacey Reynolds, general manager at The Swan Hotel in the High Street, said that the hotel's power went out at around 1.30pm and was off for about an hour and a half.

She said: "We lost all our hot food trade and were limited to serving sandwhiches."

All of the hotel's tills went down and Stacey said staff were having to do everything manually and hand written.
