Initially about 20 homes were affected at 6.31pm following a fault on the electricity distribution network.

In order to carry out repairs as quickly and as safely as possible, UK Power Networks’ engineers had to isolate supplies to a further 40 customers at 10.02pm.

The engineers worked into the early hours with half the customers having power again just after midnight and the final half having supplies at 5.10am today (November 19).

A spokesman for the power company said: “UK Power Networks would like to apologise to customers in the Orchard Way area of Burgess Hill who experienced an interruption to their power supplies last night.

“We appreciate how difficult it can be to lose power, especially when it is cold and dark, and apologise for the inconvenience caused by this incident.”
