Powerful drama from Bognor pupils highlights fight against bullying

Bullying was brought to the fore in a powerful performance at a Bognor Regis school.

The emotionally-charged drama pieces brought home to the ten and 11-year-old pupils at Laburnum Grove Junior School the effects of the unacceptable action.

The plays were performed by Bognor Regis Community College students in its M8 mentoring and anti-bullying scheme led by counsellor Kev Robbins and assistant headteacher Sarah Jewell.

The drama workshop was followed by practical work in which all Laburnum Grove's older pupils worked closely with those from the college.

Among the matters they considered were self-esteem and confidence issues which lead to bullying and its acceptance by its victims.

Pip Otton, Laburnum Grove's headteacher, said: "Pupils unanimously agreed that afterwards they had a much better understanding of how to prevent bullying and how to quickly, effectively and safely address bullying if it was experienced."
