STAFF and pupils at Heathfield Community College were celebrating this week after the chief inspector of schools, Mike Tomlinson, named HCC as 'a particularly successful school in his annual report.

The Ofsted 'citation was particularly pleasing because Heathfield CC was one of only 90 secondary schools in the country to have been identified in this way.

Deputy head Peter Colebourn said the glowing report had rounded off an excellent 12 months for the college. He said: 'We have had another very good year after receiving the Gold Award under the Department for Education and Skills Artsmark Scheme. They considered the provision in the college for art, drama, music and dance and the standards achieved by the students to be worthy of the highest award.

He added that Year 11 students last year achieved the highest ever GCSE pass rate with 66 per cent of students gaining five or more passes at A* to C level.

'This reflects the commitment of the college staff with the parents to ensuring that every student achieves his or her potential, he said.
