Praise for gardeners

SOUTH East in Bloom commendation certificates were received by green-fingered townsfolk at a ceremony in Newhaven on Sunday.

The Mayor and Newhaven In Bloom chairman, David Fitton, presented the awards at Paradise Park.

He said: We were delighted judges recognized the huge effort by the people of Newhaven to brighten up their town.

Newhaven is becoming a very attractive and pleasant place to live, work and visit thanks to the effort of residents, businesses and the town and district councils.

Judges awarded commendations to David Cliff and Mike Mullins, both from Newhaven Heights, Tony Allen, Western Road, Peter Howell, Valley Road, Denise Blunt, for her Southway plot, the Neils Close Residents Association, Jackson and Essex mews residents, Newhaven Downs House, Liberty s Nightclub and Paradise Park.

This year Newhaven won joint second place in the South East in Bloom small town class.

The Mayor added: This year the town was a kaleidoscope of colour. We hope that next year even more residents and businesses will improve their gardens so that Newhaven can win first prize.
