Praise for skateboard park kids

YOUNGSTERS are gearing up into fundraising overdrive for a new Seaford skateboard park.

It is hoped work on the 25,000 Salts Recreation Ground project will start this spring. A total of 20,000 has already been raised, including 8,500 from Seaford Town Council.

At a town council meeting on Thursday last week, councillors praised young people's enthusiasm to help raise cash. They have organised fundraising non-uniform days at Chyngton, Annecy and Cradle Hill schools this week. Others at Seaford Primary School and Seaford Head Community College will follow later in the year.

The Mayor, Cllr Jill Rosser, said: 'I am glad to see they are getting their siblings to put their money where their mouths are.'

Cllr David Schueler was the first councillor to meet with skateboarders and discuss their plan. He was delighted they were helping to raise money and hoped it would give them a sense of ownership and encourage them to look after the skateboard park.

Grants for the project have also come from Lewes District Council, Seaford Community Partnership, Seahaven Lionesses, Newhaven, Peacehaven and Seaford Lions, the Rotary Club of Seaford and a local resident.

Town clerk Len Fisher said talks were on-going to meet the cash shortfall and work could start soon.
