Price of fame for Nieve

Wearing thick tights and period costume in the heat of summer was the downside of movie work for 10 year old Nieve Stenton of Sutherland Avenue.

On the upside she got to meet Jack Black, Emily Blunt and Billy Connolly when she won a role in the film Gulliver’s Travels which went on general release at the end of the year.

Nieve, who has been attending the Theatre Workshop for about three years, was asked to audition by her agent Mark Jermin Management.

She had to go up to London for several auditions before she was offered a part as one of the Lilliputian children. There were six of them in total. Nieve was ‘Principle Girl #2’.

Mum Shelley said: “On the days of filming Nieve would be picked up by a limo in Bexhill and taken to the Gulliver’s set and bought back again in the evening. “The days were quite long but there are strict rules and regulations as to how long children can be on set for.

“And for any days that she missed at school a tutor was provided while they were filming.

“She had about fifteen days filming swapping between Pinewood Studios and Greenwich.

“While on set she met Jack Black, Emily Blunt, Catherine Tate and Billy Connolly. All were extremely nice but Jack Black was as daft off the set as he was on it.

“It was an experience that she will never forget and it has given her even more enthusiasm to pursue an acting career.”

Nieve’s outfit for Gulliver’s was made especially for her and Shelley had to take her for several fittings at the Pinewood costume department prior to the film starting.

Shelley added: “Gulliver’s was filmed in the summer and at the time the weather was very hot. Unfortunately Nieve had to wear thick blue tights with a blouse and pinefore and coat on the top and therefore suffered quite a lot in the heat. “Oh, the price of fame!”
