Primary school celebrates with croissants and jam

150 PUPILS enjoyed a continental breakfast to celebrate European Day of Languages at a local primary school.

Croissants, French bread with jam, hot chocolate and orange juice were served in St Mary Magdalene's Catholic Primary School hall on Hastings Road for the second year running.

Deputy head and coordinator for modern foreign languages Veronique Vanderschelden said: "It was so well received, we had to order more.

"It was very enjoyable. All the children had an excellent day."

Breakfast was followed by a school game of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, with Veronique making an excellent Chris Tarrant.

A staff team competed against children for the prizes on offer.

Ptanque, a popular form of the French game boules was played during the afternoon, before pupils made bilingual dictionaries and researched the flags and culture of various European countries.
