Primary school enjoyed top Ofsted report

AS schools break up for the summer holidays, one Bexhill primary is doing so with an extra spring in its step.

St Peter and St Paul Church of England Primary School in Buckhurst Road has just received an encouraging Ofsted report from school inspectors.

They found that the school, which has almost 400 pupils, had "built successfully on the strengths identified by the last inspection".

Five areas were judged to be "outstanding" - the curriculum; care, guidance and support; community cohesion; pupils' contribution to the school and wider community, and pupils' spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.

The report noted: "The school has continued to develop since the last inspection and the commitment and capabilities of leaders and managersc at all levels shows that it has a good capacity to improve further.

"The current acting headteacher and other senior and middle leaders have risen to the challenge of taking on additional responsibilities."

The acting head is Mrs Valerie Goatley and assistant heads Mrs Paula Robinson and Mrs Liz Field.

The school's headteacher since 2005, Richard White, has been on secondment to St Paul's CEP School, Hastings, since February, and will becomes its headteacher in September.

A spokesperson for St Peter and St Paul's said: "We are already extending our provision of opportunities for independent learning into Key Stage Two.

"This is one of two targets given by the inspector, the second being to keep parents fully informed of developments concerning the leadership of the school."

The inspectors found all aspects of leadership and management to be at least "good".
