Rebecca Tompkins organised the successful Princess Ball, which took place at Clambers play centre on September 18 and was a sell-out success.

It was made possible with the help of Party Time Wishes, a local family-run business who provide characters from books or films.

Children at the event were entertained by Queen Elsa and Anna, from Disney’s Frozen, and Cinderella.

Rebecca said: “A hundred little Princesses helped to raise over £1,000 for Demelza children’s hospice.

“The Royal Ball was hosted by Debbie Guy of Clambers and Party Time Wishes with a team of dedicated volunteers who brought the magic to the party.

“We would like to say a huge thanks to all who donated and showed their support for children with life limiting conditions.

“We will also be visiting the Hospice to see the children later this year.

One of the main supporters of the event was Mette Fisher who lost her youngest son Thomas to a terminal illness in 2013, when he was just eight.

She said: “We were supported by Demelza since he was diagnosed at the age of four. Thomas suffered from Hunter Disease/MPS Type 2. He had learning disabilities and went to Glyne Gap School which he really enjoyed. Thomas was a lovely caring, outgoing and smiley child. I think about him every day, and I truly miss him.”

She added: “One way of coping with the loss of a child is by keeping busy and active.

“ I have done a fair bit of fundraising for Demelza as they have supported us in every way as a family and finally supported Thomas through the last months of his life.

“Demelza Children’s Hospice Care is truly amazing, and without their support both through Demelza Community, respite care, sibling support and end of life care we would not have got through this terrible loss.

“Not only did Demelza make us feel extremely well supported they also provided us with a safe haven to relax and be together as a family. Nothing was too much trouble, and we could engage in art/music and relaxation therapy, and just being together and feel normal for a short while.”
