A 14-year-old girl from Ark Helenswood Academy was attacked while walking home from school on a path adjacent to Sandrock Park, just off The Ridge, at around 4pm yesterday (Tuesday).

Helenswood principal Lucy Monk told parents to tell their daughters not to use the path and use the pavement instead.

“We frequently advise students on both sites not to use this shortcut but recognise that this has been difficult recently due to roadworks closing the pavement along The Ridge at this point,” she said.

“The pavement is now open so please do ensure that your daughter uses the main road route, in spite of the additional journey time that this will take.”

Mrs Monk said the student was unharmed after a man tried to put his hand up her skirt but is obviously frightened and very shaken.
