PRISON MONITOR APPOINTED

The Home Secretary has appointed Mrs Marjorie Cannadine as Chairman of the Independent Monitoring Board at HMP Lewes.

The Independent Monitoring Board (IMB) acts as the eyes and ears of the Home Secretary in the prison, and members have the right of access to any part of the establishment, and talk to those in custody out of the sight and sound of officers, to check that they are being held in decent and humane conditions.

Mrs. Cannadine said: 'It is an honour to accept this appointment and I look forward to the challenge of leading the monitoring Board.'
