Prisoners on the rampage at Ford

RIOTS broke out at HMP Ford this morning (Saturday, January 1), forcing warders to abandon the prison.

Violence broke out around midnight, as about 40 prisoners started smashing windows and setting off fire alarms.

Fires were then started in various parts of the building, and prison staff had to retreat.

A Ministry of Justice spokesman said that specialist teams of officers had been called in to deal with the incident,

“We have no reports of any injuries to staff or prisoners at this stage,” he added.
