With around three million people in the UK at risk of malnutrition, the aim of the week was to raise awareness of the risks and promote good practices that can help prevent malnutrition and dehydration.

The focal event was the Worldwide Afternoon Tea on Wednesday, March 18 when every in-patient in one of the trust’s seven hospitals was served a slice of cake or biscuits alongside their usual cup of tea.

The trust used the week to promote training in good nutritional care with a number of initiatives and challenges for staff.

Dietitians held training sessions on nutrition and end-of-life care at St Michael’s Hospice and also gave training to staff in care and nursing homes on the importance of nutrition and hydration in preventing and treating pressure ulcers.

Other events included the presentation of prizes for areas achieving the highest scores in the annual Malnutrition Universal Screening Tool (MUST) audit.

The trust runs the Conquest Hospital and Eastbourne DGH.
