Proms in the Paddock returns to Lewes

Commercial Square Bonfire Society’s Proms in the Paddock returns this Saturday, August 3.

There to entertain the audience will be the popular Lewes, Glynde and Beddingham Brass Band.

The band comprises around 50 members, describing themselves as a friendly local band with a professional sound.

They finished runners up in the 2013 London and Southern Counties Brass Band Championship and the fact that they continue to headline is testament to their popularity with the Lewes crowd.

New for this year is the East Sussex Concert Band, performing a wide variety of music from show tunes and film music to classical, big band jazz, marches and some original works.

Gates open at 5pm and early arrival is recommended if you wish to picnic, as the venue soon fills up. Whilst waiting for the music there will be plenty to keep you entertained, including a barbecue, licensed bar, tea and cake stall and children’s activities - this year supporting Samuel’s Children’s Charity.

The music commences at 6pm with the East Sussex Concert Band followed by the Lewes, Glynde and Beddingham Brass Band’s selection of ‘Proms’ favourites, including Pomp and Circumstance March No 1 (Land of Hope and Glory), Jerusalem and Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture, with a spectacular fireworks finale carried out by the pyrotechnical team from Commercial Square Bonfire Society.

Tickets can be purchased in advance (adults £8, children £3 with under 5’s going free!) from or from a number of outlets in Lewes - Harveys Shop, The Elephant and Castle, The Constitutional Club, The Black Horse, Richards Butchers, The Lewes Arms, The Royal Oak, Nevill Stores and Pleasant Stores.

Commercial Square Bonfire Society would like to thank all of these outlets for selling tickets and promoting this event. Gate prices on the day are adults £10 and children £3.

There is no car parking available with the exception of limited availability for disabled blue badge holders who may reserve a space by e-mailing us at

Commercial Square Bonfire Society would like to take this opportunity to thank all its supporters who make Proms in the Paddock the huge success that it is - especially the residents in the neighbouring streets.
