The scheme involves the demolition of the 49-bedroom Travelodge in Bohemia Road and the building a new 75-room hotel in its place with 78 car parking spaces, together with access and turning area for deliveries.

As part of the proposals, the existing access to the Travelodge will be closed and a new access road built a little to the east, wide enough to accommodate two-way traffic.

Applicants notified affected residents at the start of this month of their plans, which will come before Hastings Borough Council’s planning committee at a later date.

A statement from a report by Ken Parke planning consultants said: “The building is tired and in need of significant investment.

“The opportunity exists to make the investment in a manner that will enhance the tourism function of the site while also improving the contribution of the building to the character and appearance of the area and making effective use of the land.”
