Protest planned for Rock Common hearing

A TWO-year battle to save Rock Common quarry in Washington from becoming an unwanted landfill site comes to a head on Tuesday February 10.

The county council's planning committee is due to hear an application by Veolia Environmental Services that day, and campaigners are expected to turn out in force for a peaceful protest at County Hall before the meeting starts.

The Chanctonbury Local Action Group (CLAG) has fought the bid from the beginning, with the proposal to dump 5.5million tonnes of non-hazardous waste at the site outraging not only local residents, but those from neighbouring communities.
