Protestors voice concerns over cuts

Hundreds of protestors from across the county gathered outside County Hall, Chichester this morning to voice their opposition to proposed cuts to the benefits of adults with moderate learning disabilities.

The protest has been organised in response to the plans by West Sussex County Council and was attended by service users, their carers and those opposed to day centre closures.

They gathered before the start of today’s adults services select committee meeting where the cuts are being debated.

Supporters of services such as the Apuldram Centre and the Aldingbourne Country Centre attended the protest waving placards saying Don’t Cut Us Out with support from members of the union Unison.

At 10am, a petition containing 4,500 signatures was handed over to the cabinet member for adults’ services, Councillor Peter Catchpole.
