£1.3m revamp for Pagham tourist site

More than a million pounds are being spent on a Pagham tourism site.

The 1.3m investment will create a refurbished ShowBar at Church Farm Holiday Village.

It will result in improved facilities for the thousands of visitors to the Haven Holiday business in Church Lane.

One of the attractions which will be staged in the improved building will be regular wrestling bouts.

An application has been made to Arun District Council for permission to vary the premises licence for Church Farm to enable the entertainment fighting to be staged there.

This would enable wrestling bouts to be staged at any time between 11am and 30 minutes past midnight on Mondays to Wednesdays, to 1am on Thursdays, to 2am on Fridays and Saturdays and midnight on Sundays.

The company has pledged to compile a noise management policy as part of its application.

Karen Sharp, who runs the site's main entertainment complex, said the wrestling licence had been applied for as part of new regulations under which all wrestling events had to be licensed.

She pointed out Church Farm had been holding wrestling events on bank holidays for several years. They are for holiday- makers and caravan owners and are not open to the general public.

The latest investment follows a 3m makeover last year which included a stylish new reception and changing area which features a walk-in dryer.

A 130ft flume '“ one of the biggest on the south coast '“ was also added to the indoor pool, while the indoor and outdoor pools were linked by a spectacular glazed walkway.

The investment paid off with a bumper season for the location last year. Bookings for 2009 are also highly encouraging.

Ms Sharp added that seasonal recruiting was about to start. "We have already received scores of inquiries, which is perhaps a sign of the difficult times," she stated.

She expected a big response to a recruitment open day being held there on Monday, January 19.
