£2,000 fine for speeding Littlehampton biker

A LITTLEHAMPTON motorcyclist caught driving more than 100 miles per hour has been fined £2,000.

Claire Bunton, 41, of West Mead, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving at Chichester Crown Court, and, as well as the fine, was banned from driving for 18 months and ordered to pay £1,200 costs.

The court heard that Bunton had been riding her Toyota bike at 106 miles per hour in a 70 miles per hour restricted zone on Sunday, May 16.

She was seen weaving in and out of traffic on the A24 and A280, on her way to Littlehampton, and overtaking motorists in the inside lane by traffic officers riding covert motorbikes fitted with video recording devices.

Chief Inspector Di Roskilly said: “We want to send out a strong message to the both bikers and motorists that dangerous driving will not be tolerated on Sussex roads.

“The incident could have easily resulted in the death of the drivers or other innocent road users.

She added that October was a popular month for bike riders to enjoy a few last rides before winter sets in.

“Although we appreciate people want to get out on their bikes and enjoy the sunshine, we want to remind them to ride in a safe and respectful manner, or run the risk of being caught by officers on covert motorbikes.

“Most importantly we want to ensure that they stay safe and alive.”
