£20,000 of coins stolen from Worthing M&S

MORE than £20,000 in coins was stolen in an "audacious crime" from Worthing's Marks and Spencer.

Staff turned up for work at the shop in Montague Street on Saturday, December 5, to find more than 20,000 in 1 and 2 coins had been taken.

It is believed the raiders disabled the store's alarms before forcing their way into the unoccupied building in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Members of the public are being asked to keep a look out for anyone trying to change a large number of coins.

Detective Sergeant Alex Lowe, from Worthing CID, said: "This is an audacious crime and I am appealing for anyone with information about this incident to contact Worthing CID.

"The offenders will need to change a considerable amount of coins so if you are offered these and have any suspicions, please let us know."

Police are interested in tracing two men in high visibility jackets who were seen outside the store between 1am and 2.30am.
