£200,000 BOOST FOR DISABLED SCHOOL

CHAILEY Heritage School, which cares for severely disabled young people, is to receive one of its biggest ever donations.

The Daily Telegraph Christmas Appeal has made the specialist school one of its three beneficiaries.

The school stands to receive well over 200,000, taking into account Gift Aid, which is tax relief on money donated to charity. The appeal does not finish until the end of January so there will be even more to come.

The money will be spent on re-furbishing the school's 16-plus department which contains 26 students, all wheelchair-bound and many boarding at the school.

There will be a new 'living skills' area where the students can practice cooking and other domestic abilities.

And there will be a social area where they can talk out of class, socialise and generally assert their mobility and independence.

Said Chailey Heritage development director Sally-Anne Murray: 'We are, of course, absolutely delighted. It is one of our biggest donations ever. It will go a long way to making our students' lives even better.'

The other two Telegraph beneficiaries are the Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen Forces Association, and Microloan which lends money to women in Malawi.
