£3.2m development to help care for elderly

A new development for older people in Peacehaven and the surrounding area is one-step closer following a successful bid to the Department of Health by East Sussex County Council.

The Council has been awarded 3.2m from the 2007-08 Extra Care Housing Fund for new state-of-the-art homes for the elderly.

The development will include 41 flats with 24 hour on-site care and a treatment and activity centre.

The scheme will include flats for shared-equity sale as well as those for affordable rents, offering the maximum choice for future residents.

The new development is planned on the former Downland's Day Centre site.

Building work should start on site by March 2008.

East Sussex County Council is currently preparing the planning application before work can commence
