£34k grant for new theatre equipment

Battle Memorial Hall will be able to replace its condemned theatre equipment, thanks to a £34,000 grant.

For many years the hall has had a theatre, but unfortunately during routine inspections it was deemed unsafe for further use.

Plans for the new theatre can go ahead after a 34,027.44 grant from Biffaward, a multi-million pound environment fund managed by the Royal Society of Wildlife Trusts which uses landfill tax credits donated by Biffa Waste Services.

Battle Light Opera Group also made a third party donation of 3,402.74.

Specialist contractors will carry out the installation of new steel, lighting bars, stage lights and electrical work.

This will ensure the community and surrounding villages continue to get the opportunity to perform on stage and or watch a live performances.

Battle Memorial Hall made the successful application for funding through Biffaward's Main Grants Scheme, introduced to award grants to projects that provide or improve community spaces.

Jane Smith, Battle Memorial Hall manager, said; "This is such an exciting project and will ensure the local community and surrounding villages still get the opportunity to perform on stage and or watch live performances."
