£3million boost for Shoreham Harbour

A MAJOR project to regenerate Shoreham Harbour has been boosted by a £3million government award.

The funding will cover the next two-year programme of development at the harbour '“ one of the largest regeneration sites in the south-east.

The bid was submitted in October by Adur council, Brighton and Hove City Council, West Sussex County Council, the South East England Development Agency and the Shoreham Port Authority.

This early funding will be spent on land acquisition, transport infrastructure and management of the project.

It also opens the door to bid for many more millions for regeneration infrastructure support in the future.

Delighted

Adur District Council leader Neil Parkin said: "We are absolutely delighted to win this bid.

"This will add huge momentum to our goal of creating a shining example of economic growth and sustainable homes here on the Sussex coast."

Local groups and organisations came together recently at a workshop organised by the project to look at the future development opportunities for the area.

They identified jobs, housing and helping the local community as some of the top priorities for people living in and around the Shoreham Harbour area.

Plan

The partnership is currently putting together a joint area action plan for the Shoreham Harbour area to provide a framework for investment and development in the area.

The overall aim of the regeneration is to create a sustainable community with a modern port, over the next 20 years.
