£5,000 boost for Macmillan at gala dinner

More than 100 guests helped raise £5,000 at the third Macmillan Annual Gala Fundraising Dinner at Jeremy’s Restaurant at Borde Hill.

The event was back by popular demand and organised by David Metcalfe, Macmillan’s Mid Sussex branch treasurer.

Guests were greeted with an aperitif followed by a three-course menu comprising herb crusted smoked haddock fillet, slow roast pork, bubble and squeak, organic kale and Calvados jus and poached pear, toasted almonds and cinnamon custard as dessert.

Auctioneer for the evening was wine expert Charles Metcalfe who started the bidding for a host of auction prizes including dinner for four at Jeremy’s, golf days, a signed and framed Chelsea shirt plus a range of raffle prizes kindly donated by local suppliers.

David Metcalfe said: “The bidding was competitive and the generosity of the guests has made this event so successful, we far exceeded our target. It has been lovely to receive many notes of thanks for a great evening, Jeremy and his team worked so hard to make the the event special.”

There is an ever increasing demand upon Macmillan’s resources and they are endeavouring to ensure that all affected have better cancer care with practical, medical and financial assistance.

All funds raised will go directly to Macmillan care in Sussex, with money donated going towards the development of a new Support Centre being built next to the Sussex County Hospital in Brighton and the setting up of new satellite centres in the county. These centres will provide first class information and support services.

David added that he would be delighted to hear from people who can help the branch by spending a little time supporting events or coming forward with new fundraising ideas,

He said: “Whether you want to spend an hour taking part in a street collection, helping out at a coffee morning or organising and running an event, we’d love to hear from you.”

David addede that Jeremy’s Restaurant had now been booked again for the fourth Macmillan fundraising gala dinner on Friday November 14 next year.
