£70,000 per year available for new community clubs in Shoreham, Lancing, Pulborough and Chanctonbury

ANYONE interested in setting up a new day club in Pulborough, Chanctonbury, Shoreham or Lancing is being invited to bid for a West Sussex County Council contract.

The council has allocated £70,000 per year, over three years, to run two clubs.

The money comes from the closure of three day centres in March this year.

One of the day clubs will be located in Pulborough or Chanctonbury and one will be in Shoreham or Lancing.

Funding of £30,000 per year is available for the Pulborough/Chanctonbury scheme and £40,000 is available for Shoreham/Lancing.

Member for adults’ services Peter Catchpole said: “The council’s day centres are moving to focus on specialist needs.

“For residents whose needs do not need to be met in a traditional day centre, the new style of day clubs will enhance existing activities that take place in the community.

“New day clubs and activities like these will encourage people to join in with their local community and start new social networks.”

Mr Catchpole said the successful provider would offer a range of activities mainly aimed at the elderly.

The clubs could operate across a number of venues on different days.

Expressions of interest should be submitted by Friday, May 13.
