Pub joins hospice to mark milestone

A Bognor Regis pub is celebrating its 25-year anniversary by fundraising for St Wilfrid's Hospice.

The William Hardwicke on the High Street is running a week-long variety of charity events to raise funds for the hospice, who are also celebrating their own 25-year milestone.

With the support of Bognor Regis town mayor, Cllr Eileen Anderson, the pub hopes to raise vital funds with a number of different events, including a bingo afternoon, quiz and in-house offers.

Staff will also be collecting donations with St Wilfrid’s buckets.

“It is nice to help the Hospice because they are local and everyone knows of somebody that will probably need a Hospice sometime in their lives, whether it is a friend or family member,” said landlady Lucy Hollies, 47.

“It is nice that we can celebrate our 25 years and put it to good use by raising money for St Wilfrid’s,” she added.

The week of fundraising kicks off with a charity quiz on Sunday at 8.30pm.

Entry is £1 per person, with a maximum of six people per team who can register from 8pm onwards.

Cllr Mrs Anderson will be joining the charity quiz.

She said: “St Wilfrid’s is one of my chosen charities I am supporting this year. I am a great supporter of them.

“They do some wonderful work and they do not get much funding from the government so they need our help. I will support it as much as I possibly can.”

“For the Hospice to be in their 25 years is just wonderful and for the pub to also be in its 25 years shows it is doing a very good job. A week-long event is great because it gets people focussed on it,” added Cllr Mrs Anderson.

Visitors can also take part in a bingo afternoon on Tuesday.

“It is always good to help the community. Over the years I have supported the hospice, it is such a worthwhile cause,” added landlord Carl Hollies.
