Pub regulars raise funds for Kye

KIND-HEARTED locals at the Royal Sovereign pub in Sea Road are offering their time, money and hair to a new appeal.

Regulars at the pub will have their heads shaved and legs waxed to raise money for two-year-old Kye Wilson, who was recently diagnosed with cerebral palsy.

Kye's mum, Michelle, was told she would have to wait up to 20 months for vital pieces of equipment to become available on the NHS.

Michelle said: "We were originally told the waiting list was 20 months. I have since been told there are new occupational therapists provided for, but we still cannot get all the equipment for quite a while."

Just two basic but vital pieces of equipment cost 1500.

"Kye has been measured up for the equipment he is having, but one piece is still being designed and won't even be on the market for ages.

"The equipment will make it a lot easier for me and Kye.

"At the moment he hasn't even got a stand. He had one but he learnt how to undo the velcro, so we are waiting for a new stand.

"For now he has to sit in the chair, held up by cushions or he rolls about on the floor."

Michelle has been trying to make-do with baby equipment, but Kye is growing fast.

"I think bath time is the worst as he feels unsafe and thinks he is going to fall. I have to use both hands to hold him up. I was using a baby bath but he is too big for that now."

Kye's diagnosis coincided with regulars from the Royal Sovereign arranging a fundraising event.

"On the day I had been to find out how much the equipment was, the people at the pub said they would help out."

A day of special fundraising events in Kye's honour has been arranged for October 13.

In the mean time, Michelle is trying to round up raffle prizes from generous local businesses. "What we need desperately is for people to donate things that can go into the raffle."

Raffle prizes can be donated by calling the Kye Wilson Appeal on 07929 666004.
