Public invited to free first-aid demos

Staff and volunteers from St John Ambulance, the nation’s leading first aid charity, are inviting members of the public to free first aid taster sessions in Hastings on August 11.

The event, which will run between 11am-3pm, will give local people the chance to learn more about the importance of first aid.

People will have the opportunity to watch and have a go at some essential skills, such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), how to treat someone who is choking, putting a patient into the recovery position and how to treat bleeding, sprains and strains.

The charity is holding the event ahead of launching a new selection of courses at the St John Ambulance training centre, Bohemia Road, Hastings.

From September, as well as community courses for members of the public such as ‘Essential First Aid for All Ages’, the workplace training team will be offering Hastings’ firms, schools, and their staff a convenient location for first aid training.

Regional Training Manager Deborah Adwent said the charity wants to offer staff from local businesses and schools a convenient venue for keeping up to date with their first aid qualifications.

“The drop-in event is an ideal opportunity for people to come along and learn some life saving skills and also find out more about the courses we have on offer,” she said.

“First aid is a really simple skill to learn, but it can have an incredible impact, whether it’s in the workplace, at home, or in the local community.”
