Public will have asay on how Rye isrun in the future

DETAILS of Rye’s Town Plan will be unveiled at a public meeting at Rye College next month.

And members of the public are being urged to come along and make their views known.

Rye Town Council has applied to have the civil Parish of Rye designated as a Neighbourhood Plan area.

A public meeting takes place at The College at 7pm on Thursday October 17 to consider how the process will progress.

It will cover housing, work and business, community issues, transport and the environment.

The meeting is open to those who live, work or study in Rye, or represent an organisation based in Rye .

Having it’s own Town Plan is aimed at giving residents a greater say on major issues which could affect the town such as proposed housing developments and transport infrastructure.

It is being taken forward by a steering group, comprised of six Rye councillors and five community representatives.

Deputy chairman of the Steering Group Colonel Anthony Kimber said: “Public consultation is a key requirement on the Council and Steering Group.

“It should not be underestimated how important this plan is. It provides a golden opportunity for the people of Rye to have their say about the way the town develops in the future. The Steering Group will be looking for wide participation in the planning process”.

The steering group is chaired by Rye Mayor Shaun Rogers.

Rye councillor Granville Bantick said: “A plan will give greater protection to Rye.”

Intention of creating a plan has been lodged with Rother District Council and the deadline for comments is 4.30pm on September 27.
