Public willing to shop rogue car parkers

BEXHILL'S police chief has been heartened by the immediate public response to the Clearer Streets project.

Inspector Simon Nelson appealed via the Observer last week for the public to use the new Clearer Streets Information Line to identify rogue drivers who are parking dangerously or blocking spaces in the town centre two-hour zone for long periods.

Offenders risk a 40 fixed penalty and a 105 fee to recover a car if it is towed away.

Inspector Nelson said: "I have had a positive response."

A list of offending vehicles including registration numbers and the places their drivers habitually park them has been passed by the Inspector to his Sergeants for action."

Meanwhile, hundreds of copies of the warning leaflet heralded in last week's Observer have already been distributed."

Rother leader Cllr Graham Gubby said: "Motorists in Bexhill could soon be having an uplifting experience '“ but not one they will like.

"The programme of enforcement will deal with selfish, irresponsible drivers who abuse the waiting limits, park on double yellow lines, approaches to pedestrian crossings, footpaths, bus stops, taxi ranks, loading bays and those who abuse their privileges as disabled drivers."
