Pumpkin show returns to Slindon

This year’s cold, wet weather may have devastated the pumpkin crop grown by the Upton family on their farm at Slindon, but they have still managed to produce a fine display which will be seen by thousands over the next few weeks.

Robin Upton, whose late father Ralph established the tradition of the “pumpkin pictures” many years ago, said this year’s harvest was down 90 per cent, so the family had to make two giant rabbits and a huge pumpkin from wicker to feature in the set-piece.

Extra pumpkins, squashes and gourds have been brought in from elsewhere to boost the stock which is on sale at the Uptons’ site in Top Road. PHOTO: Paul Terry
