Pupil aims for international Polocrosse glory

ROBERTSBRIDGE Community College is supporting a fundraising drive to help send one of its students to compete in an international sporting event.

Fourteen-year-old Jazzmin McGurk has secured a place in the Under 16 UK Polocrosse squad. Polocrosse is a form of lacrosse played on horseback and Jazzmin is one of the top three young female players in the country.

The talented teen, who is to compete in a tournament in Brightling on June 9 and 10, has been selected for her first-ever test tournament at Mollington in Cheshire in July. She will then head to her first Northern Hemisphere U16 Quadrangle tournament, taking on teams from South Africa, Ireland and Australia. If Jazzmin continues to show the form and success she has so far, there is every chance of her being included in the squad to go to Australia and New Zealand in 2013. Robertsbridge Community College has agreed to help support Jazzmin by releasing her from her studies to allow her to compete.

The college has also agreed to help raise funds to enable Jazzmin to realise her dreams of competing Down Under. Several hundred pounds is need to help pay for ferry tickets, fuel and accommodation, just for this year’s trip alone.

Robertsbridge Community College is appealing for individuals, groups or companies who could offer support or sponsorship to help cover these costs to call the college on 01580 880360 to discuss or to donate direct via Paypal go to [email protected]
