BUDDING young golfers have been learning how to whack balls down the fairway thanks to help from a professional golf club’s team.
Class 4G pupils from Polegate School were given tuition by Laurence Collier PGA Professional from the Royal Eastbourne Golf Club and his team of student coaches during this past term.
The golf student coaches have been taking the Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence at Sussex Downs College.
The aim of the golfing lessons was to introduce the children to golf skills and movements as well as encouraging them to have fun discovering a new sport.
The training was topped off by a recent visit to the golf course to work on their skills and play a few holes.
Afterwards Caroline Garland, class teacher, said: “It was a fantastic afternoon and a great opportunity for the children to try something new.
“We hope some of them will get the golfing bug and continue to play.”
A cheque for £1,090 was presented to Matt Warwick from Sussex Golf Partnership by David Lockyer, club manager.
Royal Eastbourne Golf Club members have raised the generous amount to help get local schoolchildren into golf as a sporting activity.
