Pupils celebrate science during Biology Week

A host of activities took place at Felpham Community College as part of the national '˜Biology Week' '“ a national event hosted and publicised by the Royal Society of Biology.

National ‘Biology Week’ showcases the important and amazing world of the biosciences, getting everyone from children to professional biologists involved in fun and interesting life sciences. It is the fifth year the Royal Society of Biology have organised this event.

Activities at FCC included a ‘Biology Bake-Off’ (in which students and staff were encouraged to bake a biology themed cake), biology quizzes taking place across classes and year groups with a competition for the best scores, and ‘Bio Art Attack’ (in which students were encouraged to create art inspired by biology including anything from collages to models to sculptures).

Susan Buckland, teacher in charge of biology and co-ordinator for the event, said: “This is the first year we have got involved with the event as a school and we feel the week has definitely raised the awareness of how diverse biology can be and the fun and interactive ways you can study it.”
