Pupils get taste of new cultures

A United Nations of learning was enjoyed by children at Yapton Primary School.

The youngsters had a flavour of Japan, China, France, Spain, Nepal, Australia and Italy during their international day.

First hand accounts of some of the cultures were provided by two Japanese and seven Spanish teachers from Madrid who are visiting the North End Road school.

The Japanese teachers '“ Kunitaro Futimara and Masako Watanabe '“ have been hosted by the school for six months.

They have had great success in passing on origami and the language, food and festivals of their homeland.

Headteacher Mary Ramacciotti said: 'The day was a huge success and we hope to repeat it again next year.

'The day will be a valuable contribution to our portfolio of evidence towards gaining the full international schools award.

'We have been working towards this for the past three years.

'During this time, we have built up strong links with several different countries, especially our partner school in Morocco.'
