Pupils learn about National Citizen Service

Collyer’s students who have taken part previously in NCS activities were also on hand to talk about what they’ve gained from participating.

Lucy Hargreaves, from Collyer’s Progression Directorate explained: “The NCS programme is open to 15-17 year olds in England and Northern Ireland.

“It’s a fun and unforgettable programme that helps to build skills for life whilst taking on new challenges and meeting new people.”

Becky Griffiths, Rose Abram and Ben Wallace from NCS came to Collyer’s to chat to students about the upcoming NCS opportunities in the summer holidays and October half-term.

NCS is also a government backed initiative so students would never have to pay more than £50 to participate in the programme, much of which is residential and activity based.

Becky Griffiths said “Collyer’s students make up a large proportion of our NCS Graduates and they are always so personable, articulate, considerate, enthusiastic, and the first to volunteer and dedicate their time to projects!

“It’s fantastic to watch them grow in confidence and ability during the project and to see them mature and develop. We’re keen to get more students on board as they work so well with others and help to make NCS a success.”

Senior Tutor Ian McAlister said: “Huge thanks to Lucy Hargreaves for co-ordinating this outstanding opportunity; yet another to add to the list of successful progression events run by the college over the course of this year!”

Collyer’s Vice Principal, Steve Nicholls was delighted: “Massive thanks to our visitors from the National Citizenship Service for taking time of their busy schedules to talk to our students about the opportunities available.”
