Pupils organise charity concert at the Capitol

Anabel Mather, 14 from Storrington, and Victoria Ballard, 15 from Ashington, will be putting on the show at the Capitol Theatre, in Horsham, in February to raise funds for local charities ABC Champions Animal Sanctuary and the Dame Vera Lynn Trust.

The teenagers came up with the idea whilst debating what to do for the volunteering section of their Duke of Edinburgh Award.

Victoria said: “We were in our class at the beginning of the year for our Duke of Edinburgh Award and they were taking about the volunteering section of it. We looked to see what other people had done and thought we could do that.”

As if juggling homework and revision was not enough, the girls’ have decided to organise every part of the show themselves.

They have already booked the venue and are currently in the middle sorting out sponsorship and hosting auditions. As well as organising the entire show the teenagers will also be performing in the main production.

Victoria said: “It is bit intimidating and it is a lot of work but it is going to be great.”

Anabel continued: “It’s a bit daunting really but I am very excited about doing it.”

The charities they have chosen are close to the girls’ hearts and they plan to raise around £1,000 for each.
