Pupils’ ‘outstanding’ behaviour is praised in Horsham school’s Ofsted report

The school, based in Blackbridge Lane, was praised for pupils’ above average attainment in both reading and writing with particular reference to good progress made from the beginning of Early Years.

Teaching was judged to be good because teachers provide interesting and engaging lessons which motivate pupils to learn. The inspectors noted that teachers know exactly how well each pupil is doing and their high expectations inspire pupils to try their best. Progress is good because leaders and teachers carefully check the progress of every pupil to ensure that nobody falls behind. Good with outstanding teaching was observed in both

Key Stages with the Inspectors making particular reference to outstanding teaching and learning in Year Two.

The behaviour and safety of pupils was judged to be outstanding.

The report said: “Pupils are polite and courteous. Their outstanding behaviour contributes to the strong sense of community in the school. Exceptional attitudes to learning make a significant contribution to achievement.”

The inspectors described the way the school promotes pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development as exceptional.

The inspectors also noted the calm and purposeful leadership of headteacher Joanna Brown, whose drive and determination since her appointment two years ago had a positive effect on raising standards and improving the quality of teaching.

As one pupil put it: “Our school is above all words. It’s the best in the world.”
