Pupils visit £3.5 million regeneration project

YOUNGSTERS who named a £3.5million regeneration project had the opportunity to see how work was progressing with a visit to the site.

Pupils from Sidley Community Primary School named the Elva Business Centre, on the old Sidley Goods Yard site, last year.

The Rother District Council led project will provide 2,260 metres of light industrial and office space, creating up to 120 new jobs.

It features two workshop blocks and a two-storey unit divided into 20 lettable rooms.

Sidley Primary School backs onto the site so it was decided to give Year 5 students the opportunity to give the project a title.

The pupils settled on a name which reflected Bexhill's rich motoring heritage '“ the Elva was a sports car built in Bexhill.

The project's other buildings also take their names from Bexhill's motoring links '“ the town held the UK's first speed trial in 1902 and is known as the birthplace of British motor racing.

Whilst on their visit, the school children were particularly interested by the project's green credentials.

Heating will be provided to the office block via underground pipes stretching a hundred metres below the surface.

The units will also benefit from solar panels.

Work at the Elva Business Centre will be finished later this year.

Anyone interested in the office space or workshops should contact Rother District Council on (01424) 787000.
