Purple awareness day for epilepsy

Known as purple day, the awareness event was launched in 2008 when a nine-year-old Canadian girl called Cassidy Megan decided that she wanted to raise awareness about epilepsy and to show people having seizures that they weren’t alone.

In the last six years purple day has taken off worldwide.

This year people in countries all over the world people will be wearing purple and raising money to raise awareness about this misunderstood condition.

Eastbourne Epilepsy Group will be holding an information event in the Arndale Centre all day, with the support of Caroline Ansell MP.

The group would like businesses in Eastbourne to get on board and go purple for the day.

They have also approached local schools to see if they would be willing to have a purple non-uniform day.

Eastbourne Epilepsy Group is also hoping the awareness day will take off on social media and is urging locals to post their efforts and purple selfiies on Facebook and Twitter to show they support epilepsy awareness. The group has set up a purple parade board on its own Facebook page.

There are more than 500,000 people with epilepsy in the UK. The awareness day aims to get rid of the stigma that’s still attached to epilepsy.
