Purse thieves strike again

HEARTLESS purse thieves, who police believe are regularly coming into the town from out of the area to target the elderly, were back in Bexhill on Friday, and they are again urging shoppers to be vigilant.

Following three separate incidents a police spokesman said they believe the culprits are a group of "semi-professionals", who come into the town every couple of weeks, on busy days, and that they operate in "quite a wide area".

The first reported incident happened at approximately 9am on Friday when a man discovered his wallet, containing 300, had been stolen whilst shopping at Ravenside B&Q.

The second incident happened just after midday at Somerfields when an elderly lady reported a purse had been stolen from her handbag.

Thieves were back at Ravenside again in the evening, and at approximately 7.30 targeted another elderly lady outside Tesco's.

A purse was snatched from her bag, which had been left unattended on a shopping trolley, as she packed shopping into her car.

The police spokesman said a few simple precautionary measures could help prevent people from being an easy target for the unscrupulous robbers:

"We want to remind people that there are thieves out there and not to leave bags in trolleys. If wearing a bag, wear it across the shoulder, and be aware of people bumping into them".
