What support will keep you independent?

This is the question being asked by a multi-agency partnership that spends 3m on housing support services for vulnerable older people.

Having a home '“ and managing all the responsibilities that come with it '“ is something that many of us take for granted. Yet as we get older, some people find it difficult to manage on their own.

That's where housing support services can make all the difference. With a bit of assistance people can manage their money, liaise with a landlord, claim benefits, or get involved in the community '“ and as a result live independently and enjoy a higher quality of life.

Yet 'Supporting People', the multi-agency partnership which commissions these services in East Sussex, believes there's still more that can be done. It is launching a three month consultation to canvass views, and find out, for example, which housing support services are most valued by local people and what improvements they would like to see.

To get involved book your place at one of the local consultation events, by contacting the Supporting People Programme, 2nd Floor, Sackville House, Brooks Close, Lewes BN7 2FZ. Tel. (01273) 482805 Email [email protected]

Consultation events are taking place across the county at various dates including at the Cooden Beach Hotel on June 30, 10-12pm, and one at Horntye Park Sports Complex in Hastings on July 2 10-12pm.

Send your views to ESCC by August 31. You can get a copy of the questionnaire either online at www.eastsussex.gov.uk/yourcouncil/consultation/current.htm or by contacting the Supporting People team.
