“I am absolutely thrilled and honoured to be receiving an OBE,” said Shelagh, who lives in Midhurst. “It is, however, testament to the great staff and students of Chichester who have made this possible.”

This award comes after the college was awarded ‘outstanding’ in every inspection area during their general inspection in March, 2014, in addition to gaining a second outstanding for their residential care in February of this year.

Meanwhile, Chichester Festival Theatre artistic director Jonathan Church and executive director Alan Finch are both to receive CBEs for services to the theatre.

The news comes as they start their tenth summer season at the venue – far more than anyone else in the theatre’s 53-year history.

A CFT spokesman said: “It’s fantastic news. We’re really proud that Jonathan and Alan have received this substantial honour for all they’ve achieved during these past ten years at Chichester Festival Theatre.”

Other awards in the area are as follows:

- David Patrick Henry Burgess, MBE, DL –for services to young people and the community in West Sussex.
