On the morning of his death, June 20, he had gone out early as usual to walk his bichon frise dog in Hotham Park, an activity he had always enjoyed.

The 75-year-old was found collapsed on the pavement by passer-by Steve Allbert who called 999 at 9.57am.

The court was told Mr Davis had no recollection of how he fell.

He was treated by paramedics before being taken to Bognor Regis War Memorial Hospital, where his fractured arm was placed in a sling.

Mr Davis then returned home where he had shepherd's pie for tea before going to bed at around 10.30pm.

The court heard that during the night Mr Davis had to be helped to the bathroom by his wife.

On his return he could only make it to his wife's side of the bed.

Coroner's officer Sarah Lawrence told the court his concerned wife called 999.

Mr Davis was taken to St Richard's Hospital in Chichester.

He died on July 21 at 1am from a subdural haematoma.

West Sussex Coroner Penelope Schofield adjourned the inquest until further information from the hospital could be obtained.

She said: "Should Mr Davis have had a CT scan after his fall? That is a question that needs to be answered."
